From reading the synopsis for the film, what genre of film do you think it is?  Please give reasons for your answer.

1. A  Torture Horror film - a scary hallway, dark rooms and a terrified woman in ragged clothes.

2. A Thriller/Horror film - young, beaten woman and dark halls.

3.  A horror film - scary woman holding a knife, scary rooms and a group of men torturing the woman.

What impression do you get regarding the possible poster for the film? Think about what you would normally expect on a poster for this kind of film.

1. A poster of a beaten up woman in the corner of a dark room.

2. A poster of a man with a gun and his daughter (beaten up) in the background.

3. A poster of a dark room with a woman screaming in the foreground.

What are your first impressions of the DVD cover?  Please consider the following in your answer: Choice of image / choice of fonts / colour scheme used / page layout.

1. The DVD cover is very appealing and it would attract an audience who likes brutal movies. The colour schemes consist of black, dark white (grey) and red. The font is very good for the type of film that it is. The best font is the red one that says, ‘The hostage’. The images are powerful and give off the message of the film with even reading the title. The layout of the movie poster is very good. The images are positioned in noticeable places and the sizes of the images stand out.

2. The cover is amazing! I love the choice of images because they stand out and they are quite effective. The font is quite big and bold, which is good because it easily stands out to the viewer/s. The colours that are mainly used are black and white. These colours are a good choice because they show what type of film that it is. For example: the colour black suggests death and fear but pink would suggests happiness and fun.

3. The hallway in the background doesn’t really look like a hostage asylum but the image of the woman is effective. The fonts are quite good because they differ according to the part of the DVD cover draft. The colour of the hallway is too dark but the light on the back cover is just the right brightness. And the contrasts are good because they are not all the same.

From your knowledge of the synopsis, do you think the poster drafts suit the film?  Please give reasons with regards to the designs.

1. Yes - the movie cover would stand out if it was in a shop. The image of the woman holding the knife is very good against the background of the hallway.

2. Yes - the cover gives the feeling that the movie is a horror. You can tell that it is a horror because of the content that is included. Also, it looks really professional, as if a DVD designer has created the cover.

3. Yes - the cover shows a lot of the things that would usually be seen on a Horror DVD cover or on a movie poster. It is very good and i would buy it without reading the blurb, just by looking at the cover. But the image of the hallway could be a little bit clearer.

Overall, the three reviewers of my DVD cover and synopsis liked the way it looked and what it contained. They thought that the imaging was very good and the font was effective against a dark, dull background. Although there were some suggestions for improvements, my feedback was mostly positive and in my opinion, the design of the DVD cover implied why. They liked the range of images that I had used, however I could have made the hallway image a little clearer. To improve my final cover, I will try to adapt on all of the feedback given, both positive and negative, but I will also try to maintain the same type of content that is included so that my cover remains as good as it can possibly be!
