Playing With Narratives
Original story of Emily and the Dragon:
Emily was tired of watching wimpy princes trying to get rid of the local dragon, so she decided to have a go herself. Soon she came upon the dragon who was singeing the top of a freckle-faced boy's head.
Being a resourceful princess, Emily set a trap for the dragon and then tricked him into following her..
"You're just a silly girl, and even though it's hardly worth it, i'm going to toast you to a crisp and have you for pudding' boomed the dragon. Just then, the branches he was standing on gave way, and he fell down a very deep well, his fire put out once and for all.
Emily returned to the boy.
'What's your name?' she asked.
'Prince Mathew' said the boy.
'That'll do nicely,' said Emily. 'Where do you live?'
'In Happy-Ever-After,' he replied.
'That'll do nicely too,' said Emily.
And with that, she and Matthew rode off together to Happy-Ever-After.
My story of it ( Twist )
Emily was sleeping up in her castle dreaming of her next meal, and the prince that would come and rescue her. She suddenly had a dream that she wouldn’t have to wait for a prince because she could kill the dragon herself. She went to the exit and grabbed a sword. When she opened the door, she saw the dragon eating a small little boy. She decided to lay a trap so when the dragon came he would fall down it. She yelled at the dragon, “Come and get me” and with that the dragon approached her. Emily’s plan was going well until the dragon outwitted her and jumped over the trap. Before Emily could escape, the dragon ate her, then flew off into the distance. It seems the dragon had a trick up his sleeve, if he had any!
My story of it ( Flashback )
The story starts with Emily getting ready to do battle with the great dragon. She goes down the steps of the castle and as she approaches the dragon, ready to cut its head off but then she has a flashback. She remembered the time when the dragon saved her just as she was about to get killed by a pack of wolves. She realises that this is not the right thing to do. She then goes to the dragon and comforts him.
My story of it ( Parallel scenes )
Emily was sitting up in her castle, chucking stones. Meaning in Happy-Ever-After, a prince was setting up to go and save Emily from the dragon. As he finished putting his armour, he got on his horse and rode off to save Emily. Emily then thought instead of a prince coming to rescue her, she would kill the dragon herself so she got her sword and went to kill the dragon. The prince was riding fast without halt to the castle where Emily was imprisoned. As the prince got closer to her, she stared down the dragon then without a word she swung her sword and cut the dragons head off. Afterwards she walked off into the distance. However, the prince never knew of this so he spent the remainder of his life waiting for the princess to come down… But no one ever did!
My story of it ( Flashforward )
As Emily was preparing for the battle with the dragon, she had a premonition that the dragon would outwit her and gobble her up. However, she couldn’t let this irritate her so she shook her head and focused on the job in hand. She swung the sword and killed the dragon.
